Men's Basketball Opens up KJCCC Play Against Saints

Pratt, Kan. – The Beavers head to Liberal, KS to open up Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) against the Saints of Seward County.

On The Air

Wednesday's game can be heard on KMMM 1290 with Austin McNorton calling the action. McNorton is in his first year as voice of the Beavers. The game will be streamed on sewardsaints.com.  

Last Time Out

The Beavers won their last JV game of the season against Kansas Wesleyan 103-65. Sophomore forward Julian Eziukwu lead the team with 14 points in the game. Freshman forward Quinton Metcalf lead the team in rebounds with 15 and also had 13 points in the game. They only shot 5-20 from the three-point arc and will look to improve upon that number moving forward.

Scouting the Saints

The Saints were defeated their last time out against Western Nebraska Community College in overtime 83-76. There two wins this season have come against New Mexico Military Institute and Trinidad State College. As a team they average 83.0 points, 31.0 rebounds, and 15.3 assists per game. They are averaging 18.3 turnovers a game which the Beavers will look to capitalize on.

They return eight sophomores and guard Branton "Bee" McCray is leading the group with 8.5 points a game. Freshman guard Erik Pratt leads the team with 19.5 points per game. On the other side of the ball freshman forward Kevon Cooper leads the team in rebounds with 6.5 a game. Much like Interim Head Kenny Eddy this will be the first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) game for new Saints head coach Rylee Hernandez.

Last Season vs. Saints

The Beavers dropped both games against the Saints last season. At home they lost 94-86 and on the road 81-72.

Its Morris Time

Sophomore forward Cam Morris has exploded into this season averaging 16.6 points and 7.2 rebounds a game. He opened the season on November 1st against McPherson College (JV) with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Last season Morris averaged 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds a game in conference play.

Beavers Find Their Soul in Metcalf

Standing at 6'8 the freshman forward from Seoul, Korea Quintin Metcalf has certainly created some excitement on campus. He hasn't disappointed on the court either. Thus far this season Metcalf is averaging 10.0 points and 9.6 rebounds a game.

Beavers Have Experience in KJCCC Play

The Beavers return nine players this season that have all at least experienced one season in the conference. Of the nine, three currently are averaging over 10 points a game. The rest are all averaging over 5.0 points a game. Sophomore guard Eric Rhymes is leading the team in assists with 5.2. Having experience and depth on the team will help as the team moves into conference play. 

Pratt Picked #11 in Preseason Poll

Pratt was picked to finish 11th in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) preseason poll. They were picked in between Barton at #10 and Cloud County at #12. Coffeyville was ranked first with Dodge City, Butler, Colby, and Hutchinson rounding out the top five.

Up Next

The Beavers will return home on Saturday, November 20th to take on the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Technical College. Tip-off is scheduled at 4:00 pm that afternoon.
