Last Time Out

The Beavers took on the #10 ranked Conquistadors from Dodge City Community College this past Wednesday night. The game was highly competitive in the first half with Dodge City taking a slight edge 43-38 at halftime. In the first half freshman forward Cam Morris went down with an injury and did not return for the rest of the game.

Freshman forward Quintin Metcalf stepped up and played 35 minutes in the game and finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds. In the second half, the Beavers came out fighting, but couldn't make up the difference of the first half and lost 86-81. Sophomore Tommy Thomas finished the game with 24 points. For the first time this season the Beavers were out rebounded by an opponent 45-33.

Scouting the Tigers

Cowley enters tonight's matchup with a record of 8-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play. They did not play Wednesday night on the road at Cloud County due to COVID-19 protocols. They started the new year with a win at home against Colby 80-79. As a team they average 67.5 points, 33.7 rebounds, and 10.9 assists per game.

Sophomore guard Clarence King leads the Tigers with an average of 15.1 points a game. Two other players average over ten points a game sophomore Raishuan Brown with 10.3 points and freshman Mekhi Cameron with 13.0 points. King leads the team in boards as well with 4.6 a game.

Last Season vs. Tigers

The Beavers faced the Tigers once last season at home and lost 105-100.

Morris is Out

Unfortunately, Morris is out for tonight's game against the Tigers. The freshman is averaging 15.3 points a game and 9.4 rebounds a game. In recent games, he had also been shooting lights out from the free throw line. Look for Morris to return in some capacity in Monday night's game.

Beavers get their 'Juice' back

Sophomore forward Julian Eziukwu has been out for the first three games of 2022 due to COVID-19 protocols. Juice as he is referred to on campus provides the Beavers some presence inside the paint they have been missing. In addition, he averages 7.5 points and 4.3 rebounds a game.

Still Looking for First Win of 2022

The calendar turning to 2022 has not been two kind to the Beavers as they are currently on a three-game losing streak. It started back on January 5th against Garden City at home losing 80-78, then at the defending national champs Coffeyville 90-69, and this past Wednesday against Dodge City 86-81. This is the Beavers longest losing streak of the season.

Up Next

The Beavers will quickly turn things around as they will face Seward County on Martin Luther King Jr. Day at home. Game time is set for 7:30 pm on January 17th.
