Beavers Win Home Season Opener 92-58

Pratt, Kan. – The Pratt Community College Beavers hosted Sterling College (JV) for their home season opener earlier this evening, November 9. The Beavers coming off a weekend trip to the New Mexico Junior College Hoops Classic were set to battle the Warriors on their home court. The court that Pratt only lost four games on last season.

The Beavers took an early 8-0 lead and never looked back. At the midway point of the first half Pratt had a 31-10 lead. At halftime, the Beavers lead 56-27. The second half started with a small run by Sterling, but coming out of the first media timeout the Beavers pushed the gas pedal back on and rolled to a 92-58 win.

Sophomore Sterling Young lead the squad with 24 points and was 6 of 7 from the three-point arc. Quintin Metcalf had 18 points with nine rebounds in the game while both Qai Kellman and DJ Bailey had 10 points in the contest. Sophomore Jaylen Davis had 10 rebounds and one-point shy of a double-double.

"Early we might have forced a few shots, but we were not finishing incredibly well at the rim early on," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Kenny Eddy. "I didn't think we took a ton of bad shots so that goes a long way. If we get 7,8,9,10 on the shot scale most of the time down that will get us a win most of the time."

Pratt will be back in action on Saturday, November 12 against Kansas Wesleyan (JV). Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM in the Beaver Dome.
