Beavers Lose 118-120 Thriller Against Hutch

Pratt, Kan. - The Pratt Community College Beavers hosted the #9 Blue Dragons of Hutchinson Community College for a pre-Thanksgiving matchup tonight, November 22. Both teams entered the matchup having lost their first conference games on Saturday, November 19. The Beavers had beaten the Blue Dragons on their home court the past three seasons.

At the first media timeout at the 14:47 mark of the first half Pratt held an 8-7 lead. Under the ten-minute mark of the half, the Blue Dragons held a 29-23 lead. Hutch still held a four-point lead at the final media timeout with 5:17 left. The Beavers were able to tie up the game 58-58 at half.

In the second half, the game was a sprint for the first team to 100 points. Hutch held a 100-93 lead with 7:35 left in the game. Pratt tied the game up 109-109 with 3:26 left in the game. Hutch held on to win 120-118 in a back and forth thriller. 

Sophomore Quintin Metcalf had 49 points in the game the most points ever scored against the Blue Dragons. Chidiebere Obichere had 19 points, with Sterling Young (16 points), Jaylen Davis (10 points), and Qai Kellman (10 points) rounded out the five Beavers in double digits. Pratt outrebounded the Blue Dragons by one 40 to 39 with 17 lead changes and 13 score ties. Pratt ended the game with 25 turnovers with Hutch scoring 31 points off turnovers. 

The Beavers will host Butler Community College on Saturday, November 26 for a post-Thanksgiving battle at 4:00 PM. The Grizzlies defeated Northwest Tech earlier tonight.
