Pratt Drops A Close One At Barton

Pratt, Kan. - The Pratt Community College Beavers traveled to Great Bend earlier today, December 10 to face the #25 Barton Community College Cougars. The Beavers entered the game off two straight comeback wins against Cloud County and Colby. Barton dropped a game against Cloud County on Wednesday, December 7.  

In the first ten minutes of the first half the game was tied three times as Barton held a 17-14 lead with 9:52 left. Barton pulled ahead in the last nine minutes of the half and lead 37-27 at halftime. To start the second half, the Beavers pulled within seven points at the first media timeout. Two minutes later Pratt was able to bring the game within one point 45-44. At the 9:28 mark of the half, Pratt tied the game 51-51. The Beavers took their first lead of the second half about a minute later 53-51.  

Barton would retake the lead 58-55, but by the last media timeout Pratt would pull back ahead 61-58. With 2:46 left in the game, the Beavers held their largest lead of the game 67-61. Barton would pull back within one with 1:42 left in the game. With just under one minute to play Barton was able to tie the game back up 68-68. With 22 seconds left the Cougars took a two-point lead 70-68. Pratt would not be able to respond after a late turnover and lost 72-70 to the Cougars.  

Sterling Young lead the team with 19 points including a late three-point basket. Chidiebere Obichere finished the game with a double-double his second of the week. Obichere had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the game. Finally, Qai Kellman finished with 13 points in the game. The Beavers outrebounded the Cougars 35 to 34 but had 21 turnovers.  

Pratt will wrap up their fall semester by hosting Independence Community College on Monday, December 12. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
