Beavers Comeback To Beat Indy To End Fall Semester

Pratt, Kan. - The Pratt Community College men's basketball team hosted the Independence Community College Pirates earlier tonight, December 12. The Beavers entered the game looking to end their fall semester with a win after dropping a two-point loss at Barton. The Pirates entered the game off a loss against Coffeyville.  

The first half started back and forth, with Pratt holding a 15-12 lead with 10:11 left. Indy was able to pull ahead and lead 37-33 at halftime. To start the second half, the Pirates were able to pull ahead 47-37 with 15:46 left. Pratt was able to come back and tie the game 47 all with 13:22 left. At the 10:45 mark, the game was tied 52-52. Pratt was able to take a one-point lead 56-55 with 9:34 left. The next six minutes were a lot of back-and-forth play, but the Beavers pulled ahead 67-61 with 2:29 left. With seven seconds left, Indy was able to pull within three points 69-67. To close the game, DJ Bailey missed two free throws, but Qai Kellman rebounded the second missed free throw and was fouled. Kellman made both free throws to give Pratt a 71-67 lead. As the clock expired, Indy made a three-point basket as Pratt held on to win 71-70.  

Kellman lead the team with 20 points while Bailey had 17 points. Jaylen Davis finished the game with 12 points while Chidiebere Obichere had 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Beavers outrebounded the Pirates 36 to 25 and cut down on turnovers from previous games with 16.  

The Beavers will end their fall semester with a 7-6 overall record and a 4-4 conference record. Pratt will kick off 2023 on January 4 with a road game at Garden City Community College. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
