Beavers Could Not Clutch Late Lead to Defeat #8 Dodge City

Pratt, Kan. - The Pratt Community College men's basketball team coming off their one-point win against #13 Coffeyville on Saturday, January 7 took to the road to face the #9 team in the country in another epic Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference battle. The Conquistadors of Dodge City Community College entered Wednesday, January 11 game with a 13-2 overall record and 9-1 in conference play. The matchup was not short of epic.  

In the first thirteen minutes of the game both teams were tied five times with multiple lead changes before the Beavers could jump out 27-22 with 7:27 left in the half. Two minutes later, Dodge City was able to tie the game for a sixth time. In the final four minutes of the first half, the game was tied four more times before Pratt took a one-point lead 40-39 into the locker room at halftime. 

Dodge City took an early lead in the second half and managed to hold the lead for eight minutes before Pratt went on a run and tied the game back up with 7:46 left. At the 3:22 mark, Pratt held a 71-69 lead, but Dodge City tied the game back up with 3:15 left. The rest of the game was all Dodge City except for a three-point play from sophomore DJ Bailey with 42 seconds left. It pulled Pratt to within four 74-79. Dodge City was able to add three more points to finish off the Beavers 82-74. 

Sterling Young, DJ Bailey, and Quintin Metcalf all had 15 points in the game while Chidiebere Obichere came off the bench for 14 points. The Beavers outrebounded Dodge City 39-33 but ended the game with 18 turnovers. The Beavers will look for that home court charm on Saturday afternoon when they host Cowley College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
