The Beaver men's basketball team hosted the Colby Trojans on January 8 in front of a loud Beaver Dome. The Beavers were looking to get another winning streak rolling while Colby picked up their first win on Saturday, February 4 after 15 straight losses.
The first ten minutes of play was extremely competitive with nine lead changes and one tie. The Beavers pulled ahead by ten points 28-18 with just under ten minutes left in the half. Colby pulled within two points 33-31 with five minutes remaining in the half. The Trojans had it down to a one-point deficit 35-34 with 3:11 left. Pratt was able to build back the lead and went into halftime up 47-39.
The Trojans outscored Pratt 49-47 in the second half, but never took a lead in the second half. By the 8:09 mark Pratt had built a 75-55 lead over the Trojans. With the Beaver Dome chanting the names of the substitutes Head Men's Basketball Coach Kenny Eddy brought in five fresh players. The Trojans utilized this opportunity to press and cut the Pratt led to ten 93-83 with 32 seconds left. After a jump shot by Colby at the 25 second mark Coach Eddy brought back in his starters. Pratt managed to finish off the Trojans 94-88.
Quintin Metcalf finished with 26 points and nine rebounds. Sterling Young turned it on in the second half to finish the game with 16 points. Chidiebere Obichere had 14 points. DJ Bailey came off the bench and finished with 14 points in 26 minutes. Pratt dominated the boards again tonight outrebounding Colby 38-27. The Beavers also finished the game with 14 assists.
Pratt will host Barton County on Saturday, January 11. Tip is set for 4:00 pm with the Class of 2023 Hall of Fame Induction taking place at halftime.
