Beavers Lose in Overtime Against Broncbusters

The Beaver men's basketball team hosted the Garden City Broncbusters on January 18 in front of a small, but mighty crowd. Both teams entered this afternoon's contest with a win in their last game. Garden City took game one back in January.  

The Broncbusters started the game on a 19-10 run in the first ten minutes of the go. Pratt was able to pull within four points with 4:48 remaining in the first half. With three minutes left, Garden City maintained their narrow margin 33-30. The Beavers were only able to score four points with the remaining time in the half. Garden City lead 46-34 at the break.  

Garden City led early in the second half, leading 60-42 with 14:34 left. Pratt started chipping away at the lead and got some big defensive stops along the way as they pulled within four with six minutes left. With 3:18 remaining the Beavers pulled within one point 76-75. Thirty seconds later Pratt took the lead 77-76. They increased their lead to 79-76 with 1:56 reaming. Garden City immediately tied the game up with a three-point basket. The Beavers retook the lead 81-79 with one minute left. Garden City was able to tie the game with 30 seconds left.  

With regulation over and the game still tied 81-81 we headed to overtime. Garden City jumped out to a 87-83 lead to start overtime. With 1:07 left in the period Pratt pulled within two 89-87. Garden built on their lead with two free throws and led 91-87. Sterling Young made a big three-point basket with 17 seconds left to pull within one 91-90. With fourteen seconds left, Garden City turned the ball over. After a missed layup under the basket Pratt turned the ball over. Garden City would hold on to win 94-90 off three free throws.  

Sterling Young and DJ Bailey ended the game with 18 points. Both Chidiebere Obichere and Quintin Metcalf had 15 points in the game. Both teams battled on the boards with Garden City taking the slight advantage 36-33. Pratt had 39 points from their bench including Bailey and Metcalf. Pratt will travel to Coffeyville on Wednesday, February 22. The tip is set for 7:30 pm.
