Beavers Lose 3-2 in Shootout Against Northeast Hawks

Pratt, Kan. - The #19 Pratt Community College Beavers hosted the National Junior College Athletic Association Plains District Championship today, November 6. The #8 Northeast Community College Hawks were in town and were set to battle the Beavers for a berth in the NJCAA National Championship in Tuscan, AZ.

The Beavers scored first off, a goal by freshman Gabriel Dias Juliani and the team would hold a 1-0 lead at halftime. In the middle part of the second half, the Hawks would tie the game 1-1 off a penalty kick. An extra twenty minutes was played in overtime and a winner still could not be decided. The game advanced to a best of 5 shootout. Pratt had an opportunity to tie up the shootout 2-2, but could not capitalize on the opportunity and would lose the game in a 3-2 shootout.

"We gave everything we had. It was a tremendous game," said Head Men's Soccer Coach Kevin Kewley. "We knew it would come down to a save here, or a miss there and to come down to PKs like this is heartbreaking. We just have to deal with it."

Pratt will await the announcement of at-large bids for the NJCAA National Championship which is set to begin on November 14. The team currently sits at 9-3-4 overall and have won back-to-back NJCAA Region VI Championships. They end the season ranked for the first time in the past two seasons.

"This team has been tremendous and have given everything they have," said Coach Kewley. "We have had two great years with back-to-back titles and to come up short is really really sad, but we will be at again next year."
