KJCCC Announces Men's Soccer Post Season Honors

Pratt, Kan- The men’s soccer program finished their season on Sunday, November 6 hosting the National Junior College Athletic Association Plains District Championship. The Northeast Community College Hawks from Norfolk, NE were in town to battle the Beavers. The game came down to a shootout after finishing in a 1-1 tie. The Hawks won the best of five shootout 3-2.

This season the team won their second straight NJCAA Region VI championship and made it to the district championship game for the second straight year. They finished 9-3-4 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play and finished the season ranked for the first time all year.

On Tuesday, November 8 the Division II All-KJCCC/Region VI men’s soccer post season honors were released. Sophomore Joao Neves Santos was named conference player of the year. He started in 13 games this season and scored five goals with five assists. He finished the season with 15 points and 23 shots. During his two seasons in Beaver Nation, Neves Santos started in 29 games with nine goals and 10 assists.

“Individual recognition due to collective effort, I feel blessed and honored for receiving this award, it means a lot to me, said Neves Santos. “I want to thank all my teammates and coach Kevin for helping me during this great season as it would never happen without them. Also, I want to thank our community for supporting us every single game and I’m happy to represent Pratt as player of the year.”  

Head coach Kevin Kewley was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season and his third as the coach of the Beavers. The previous time came in 2015 when the Beavers were division one conference champs. 

Pratt had four players named to the All-KJCCC First Team. Sophomores Joao Neves Santos and Rory O’Connor along with freshman Gabriel Dias Juliani and Pedro Mattoso were recognized.

Three players were named to the ALL-KJCCC Honorable Mention. Sophomore Gustavo Lira, and freshman Gustavo Dias Juliani and Yuri Ribeiro were all recognized.

“Congrats to all of the guys honored by the conference,” said Head Coach Kevin Kewley. “It was a great season and everyone recognized is deserving.”
