Beavers Prepare for a Saturday Road Trip To Seward County

Pratt, KS – The Pratt Community College (PCC) Beavers will hit the road Saturday, March 19 for a two-game series against the Seward County Community College (SCCC) Saints. The Saints are currently sitting third in the conference while the Beavers are still looking for their first conference win. Here are five things to know before tomorrow's contest.

  1. Last Time Out: The faced the Garden City Community College (GCCC) Broncbusters in a two-game Kansas Jayhawk Community College Association (KJCCC) series on Wednesday, March 16. In game one, the Broncbusters pulled ahead in the top of the sixth inning to win 15-4. In game two, Garden City held a substantial lead throughout all five innings winning 20-1.
  2. In Paull We Trust: Freshman Shealee Paull continues to be the Beavers best option on the mound. Paull has made eight appearances this season with a 11.95 ERA and eight strikeouts. When not on the mound, Paull plays first base or is the designated player. From the field, Paull has 23 putouts, four assists, and three errors. In the batter's box Paull has six hits for five runs and three RBIs.
  3. Beavers Becoming Patience: Before the games against Garden City the Beavers had only been walked at total of 12 times. Against the Broncbusters, the Beavers were consistent and patient waiting for their pitch. At least once the Beavers had bases loaded with no outs via walks. As the Beavers become more patient in the box, they will need to look for key opportunities to bring runners home. Against Garden City, in more than one occasion they stranded two or more runners on base.
  4. Scouting the Saints: Seward comes into this series with a 14-6 overall and 5-1 conference record. The Saints have not played since March 9 when they swept Northwest Tech 11-1 and 12-2. As a team, they are hitting .362 with 16 homeruns. Sophomore Macy Cesa-Spearman leads the team with 36 hits for 23 runs and 22 RBIs. As a pitching unit, the Saints have a combined 3.83 ERA with 60 strikeouts. Sophomore Ireland Caro leads the pitchers with a 2.68 ERA over 44.1 innings pitched and 22 strikeouts.
  5. Up Next: The Beavers will hit the road next week for a two-game series against Cloud County on Tuesday, March 22. They will not return home again until Sunday, March 27th to take on the Dodge City Community College (DCCC) Conquistadors.
