Pratt Competitive in Two Weekend Road Series

The Pratt Community College (PCC) Beaver softball team was in action this weekend on the road at two Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) opponents. The Beavers traveled to Liberal, KS on Saturday, March 19 to face the Seward County Community College (SCCC) Saints in a two-game series. They hit the road on Sunday, March 20th headed to Concordia, KS to face the Cloud County Community College (CCCC) T-Birds in a two-game series.

The Beavers will have the week off as they prepare to travel to Hutchinson Community College (HCC) on Saturday, March 26 for a two-game series and will return home on Sunday, March 27 for a two-game series against Dodge City Community College (DCCC).

Game One at Seward

Game one started out slow with the game being tied 1-1 after two innings. In the top of the third inning, the Beavers took a 3-1 advantage after bringing across two runs. The Saints responded in the next half inning and scored three runs to make it 4-3. In the fifth inning, Pratt was able to tie the game back up 4-4, but Seward wasted no time in their half inning bringing home two more runs. The Saints were up 6-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but were able to score eight runs and win the game 14-4 in six innings. Freshman Shealee Paull pitched 6.1 innings for the Beavers with sophomore Brianna Aragon getting the last two outs for the Beavers.

Game Two at Seward

The Saints put up nine runs in the bottom of the first inning and added eight more in the second inning to make it a 17-0 game heading into the third inning. Seward won the game 19-0 in five innings. Freshman Kendra Bay started game two for the Beavers and only pitched 1.1 innings as freshman Bryanna Gallagher came into the game and would finish the game on the mound. Freshman Brooklyn Humble hit a double in the game.

Game One at Cloud

Sophomore Faith Bannister brought home the first run for the Beavers after three straight wild pitches in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the second inning, the T-Birds took a 2-1 lead off a two-run homer. The Beavers brought across five in the top of the third inning off of three straight hits by freshman Bay, Gallagher and sophomore Aspen Warren. In the bottom half of the inning, Cloud tied the game 6-6 off of two hits and an error. In the bottom half of the fourth inning, the T-Birds had two more runs off a solo home run and two singles. They would hold on to win game one 8-6 in a full seven inning game. Paull pitched all six innings for the Beavers.

Game Two at Cloud

Cloud scored the first run in game two in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning, the Beavers would tie the game, but the T-Birds retook the lead off a stolen base in the bottom half of the inning. Pratt brought across two more runners off of singles by sophomore Faith Bannister and Paull in the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the T-Birds brought across five runs off of four hits. Cloud added another five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 12-3 lead. To start the sixth inning, the Beavers brought home two more runs to bring their total to five on the afternoon. Cloud responded with a run of their own and won the game in five innings 13-5. Bay started game two on the mound for the Beavers going 3.1 innings, but both Aragon and Paull made appearances on the mound in game two.
