Baptiste, McPhee place first at Region VI/KJCCC Invite

PITTSBURG, Kan.- The star-studded Pratt track & field roster had quite the day on Saturday, as two Beavers placed first in their respective events, while others certainly made an impact. 

Kashawn Baptiste made his 2021 debut in the 200-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 21.67 seconds. The time locks him in to a spot at the NJCAA Indoor Championships later this spring. Baptiste also finished third in the 400-meter fash with a time of 49.00 seconds, and was a member of the men's 4x400 relay team that placed eighth. 

Zach McPhee continues to open eyes as a freshman, as the Canadian placed first in both the mile run (4:19.64) and the 3000-meter run (8:54.33). McPhee's time in the mile run was nationally qualifying. 

Jamaal Morris Jr. also punched his ticket to nationals in the 60-meter dash, first running a 6.86 in the preliminary round before timing out at 6.85 in the final round for a fourth-place finish. Morris Jr. also ran in the 200-meter dash, and was the 11th man to cross the finish line. Marvin Jean-Francois and Mark Emilien both participated in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, both placing towards the top of the standings. Jean-Francois finished 12th in the 200-meter with a time of 22.33 seconds, and was 12th again in the 400-meter, timing out at 50.96 seconds. Emilien was right behind Morris Jr. and Jean-Francois in the 200-meter sprint, placing 13th at 22.34 seconds, and was seventh in the 400-meter run at 49.85 seconds.

Devvion Mitchell finished the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.36 seconds (38th) and Sameer Mateen placed 25th in the 400-meter dash at 55.64 seconds.

On the women's side, Jameka Chisholm ran the 60-meter dash in 8.01 seconds and did not qualify beyond the preliminary round. Maya Angela-Miller also placed 13th in the 600-meter finals, timing out at 1:47.75.
