Pratt Track and Field Hosts Beaver Classic

On a cold and slightly windy day, the Beaver track and field program hosted the second Beaver Classic on March 18 at the Pratt Track & Field Complex. The day brought six women's teams and five men's teams to Pratt, KS.  

On the men's side the Beavers finished in second place with 99 points. Top performers on the men's team include Tyler Sonnier with a first-place finish in the 100M with a time of 10.94. Tishere Dockery finished first in the 200M with a time of 22.61. The 4x400M relay team consisting of Davon Beckles, Tishere Dockery, Cole Darling, and Sebastion Gilbreath finished first with a time of 3:36.66.  

"The guys come out and competed hard and we are excited for a great start to the outdoor year," said Head Track Coach Quintin Powell. "Tyler did really good in the 100 as it was a big confidence booster for him. Tishere just showed how strong he is as he held of an NAIA All-American to win the race. The guys in the 4x400 entered the race wanting to win and to help the team clinch the meet. This team is hungry to get better." 

The Beaver women's team finished fourth with 41 total points. Top performers on the women's side include Serenity Jackson who finished first in the women's 100M with a time of 12.10 while Mikayla Henry finished second with a time of 12.32. Justyce Thomas finished the day first in the 200M with a time of 27.86.  

"On the women's side it was Serenity's first meet back from nationals as she came out strong in 30 degree weather," said Coach Powell. "Mikayla did a good job as well as she is coming off a national qualfying performance in indoor. Justyce needed that win as it is a big confidene boost for her. Proud of the team as a whole as they earned that fourth place spot."

Pratt will head down to Houston, TX next weekend March 24-25 for the Prairie View Relays.  

"We came out and peformed strong in a cold meet and I cannot wait to see what we do next week in Texas," said Coach Powell. "Thanks to Coach Morris, Coach Scott, and for every volunteer who came out and helped make this meet a success."
