Beavers Finish Graduate Classic with Five Top-5 Finishes and One National Qualifier

The Beaver track and field team traveled to Lincoln, Neb. this past weekend, January 12-13 for the 2024 Graduate Classic. The meet was hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and was held at the Bob Devany Sports Center. Pratt brought home five top-5 finishes and ten top-10 finishes from the meet.  

On the women's side of things sophomore Mikayla Henry finished fifth in the 60M dash with a time of 7.80. Serenity Jackson missed the finals of the 60M dash by one second and finished ninth. Jackson did finish sixth in the 200M dash with a time of 26.46. In the women's 800M freshman Riley Grusing finished seventh with a time of 2:46.70. 

In the men's 60M dash Joseph Michel finished fourth in the finals with a time of 6.81. This time qualifies Michel for the NJCAA National Indoor Track & Field Championships is March.  Kareem Small finished sixth in the same race with a time of 6.90. Freshman Jaden Sawyers finished tenth in the 200M dash with a time of 23.60. Brayson Bird and Larry Johnson rounded out the race with eleventh and twelfth place. In the 400M race freshman Daniel Amparan and Gino Sapalo finished ninth and tenth, respectively.  

Another pair of top-5 finishes came in the 600M with sophomores Quintin Johnson and Sebastion Gilbreath finishing third and fourth in the race. The final top-5 finish of the weekend came in the 4x400 relay with team B placing second with a time of 3:26.31. The team was comprised of Gilbreath, Johnson, JaMauri Brooks-Davis, and Gino Sapalo. The other Beaver team comprised of Jarronne Vann, Quentin Moss, Brayson Bird, and Aiden Skiles finished the relay seventh with a time of 3:51.48. The top-10 finishers for Pratt rounded out in the field events. In the long jump both Dillon Pikes and Brooks-Davis finished in the top ten. Pikes finished eighth with a jump of 6.27m and Brooks-Davis finished ninth with a jump of 6.22m.  

Up next for the Beavers will be a trip to Pittsburg, Kan. on Saturday, January 20 for the NAIA/Juco Challenge. Events get underway at 12:30 pm in the Robert W. Plaster Center.
