
The Pratt Community College track and field team competed at the West Texas A&M Spring Break Open this past Saturday, Mar 16 in Canyon, TX. The Beavers brought home eight top-5 finishes and ten top-10 finishes. In addition, one national qualifier and a new school record.
Sophomore Joseph Michel qualified for the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.33. In the men's javelin throw, Aiden Skiles finished seventh and broke the school record with a throw of 40.63m. The record was 36.55m held by Brock Steadman from last spring.
Other results for the men's team include a ninth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.74. In the 200-meter dash, three Beavers finished in the top-10 with Michel finishing third, Gino Sapalo finished sixth, and Jarronne Vann finished tenth. JaMauri Brooks-Davis finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.92. Two 4x100 relay teams finished fifth and sixth respectively with 14 seconds in between. In the high jump, Davion Smith finished fourth with a jump of 1.80m. Finally, Dillon Pikes finished eighth in the long jump with a jump of 6.51m.
On the women's side, Serenity Jackson, and Taisha Bell finished fifth and seventh in the 100-meter dash. Bell finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.70 while Naomi Vagher and Makhaya Carter finished fifth and tenth, respectively. In the 800-meter run freshman Riley Grusing finished eighth with a time of 2:43.39. Finally, the women's 4x100 relay team finished second with a time of 49.00.
Up next the Beavers will head to Arkansas City, Kan. for the Mark A. Phillips Tiger Invitationals hosted by Cowley College on Saturday, Mar 23.
