Five First Place Finishes and National Qualifier at Alex Francis Classic

The Pratt Community College track and field team was back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 24 at the Alex Francis Classic taking place on the campus of Fort Hays State University. The team brought home five first-place finishes, 11 top-five finishes, and eight top-ten finishes. This was the Beavers last scheduled meet before hosting the NJCAA Region VI/KJCCC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 2-4. 

Sophomore Joseph Michel was back to his winning ways winning the 200m dash with a time of 20.93. Teammates Gino Sapalo and Jarronne Vann finished eighth and tenth respectively in the race. In the men's 400m, Sebastion Gilbreath finished first with a time of 49.14. Other members of the Beavers including JaMauri Brooks-Davis, Daniel Amparan, and Andrea Baker round out the top five with a third, fourth, and fifth place finish.  

The 4x100m relay team consisting of Sapalo, Kareem Small, Vann, and Michel finished second with a time of 41.41 while the 4x400m relay team (Brooks-Davis, Amparan, Gilbreath, Baker) took first with a time of 3.16.86. Rounding out the men's results were a third-place finish for Davion Smith in the high jump, a sixth-place finish for Mason Pfaff in the pole vault, and a sixth-place finish in the long jump and an eighth-place finish in the triple jump for Dillon Pikes.  

On the women's side Mikayla Henry finished third in the 100m dash with a time of 12.17. Both Serenity Jackson and Naomi Vagher had top ten finishes with a fifth place and a ninth-place finish respectively. Jackson finished first in the 400m dash with a time of 57.14. Freshman Riley Grusing finished eighth in the 800m dash. Finally, the women's 4x100m relay team consisting of Jackson, Tashia Bell, Vagher, and Henry finished first with a time of 47.07. That time will qualify them for the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May.
