Women's basketball sees lead evaporate late against Barton

GREAT BEND, Kan.- Despite leading for most of the evening, the Beavers were unable to maintain the advantage on the scoreboard, losing 77-68.

Eva Sanchez led the Beavers with a career-high 24 points on 57 percent shooting (8-14). Usually playing underneath the rim, Sanchez has seen her range extended in recent games, the result of a hot shooting hand. The native Puerto Rican was 4-5 from beyond the three-point line, while making all four of her free throws. Sanchez also had three rebounds.

Rylee Alexander finished in double-figures as well, scoring 10 points on 40 percent shooting (4-10). She also had a team-high seven rebounds, all of which came on the offensive end of the floor.

The Beavers played a rather clean game, turning the ball over a season-low nine times. However, the Cougars managed to win nearly every other statistical category, especially in the fourth quarter. As Pratt led 54-53 at the start of the final 10 minutes, the quarter began with each team exchanging points. With just under eight minutes, Barton began what turned out to be a 15-3 run over the next four minutes. Having led by 12 points early in the third quarter, the Beavers eventually trailed by 11 points at the 4:07 mark of the fourth quarter.

Pratt managed to cut the Barton lead to six points with just over a minute left in the game, though the late push was eventually halted.

Women's basketball returns on Saturday, February 8 in a home matchup against #12 Seward County, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 PM.
