Beavers on wrong side of lopsided score at Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan.- Despite women's basketball's upset victory over Seward County still permeating on the campus of Pratt Community College, Coach Ishee's team was unable to ride that tidal wave of momentum into Monday's matchup with #6 Hutchinson, losing 75-41.

For the second-consecutive game, Rachel Tippens led the Beavers in scoring with nine points, seven of which came from the free throw line. Eva Sanchez was tied with Hutchinson's Brooklyn Betham for a game-high nine rebounds.

The Blue Dragons proved why they are among the top teams in the NJCAA, holding Pratt to 22 percent shooting (13-59), including 4-28 from beyond the arc (14.3 percent). Though the Beavers outgained Hutchinson 13-7 in regards to offensive rebounds, Pratt failed to capitalize on the extra opportunities, scoring only eight second-chance points. The two teams both turned the ball over 16 times, but the Blue Dragons were more efficient in turning mistakes into points, beating the Beavers 19-9 in points off of turnovers.

Tied 16-16 after the first quarter, the Blue Dragons outscored the Beavers 20-7 in the final 10 minutes of the first-half to enter the halftime break leading 36-23. Hutchinson went on to control the second-half, shooting 50 percent from the field (13-26) and 54 percent from deep (7-13). Conversely, the Beavers made only five field goals in the game's last 20 minutes of play.

The loss drops Pratt to 14-12 overall and 8-9 in the KJCCC. On Wednesday, women's basketball travels to Garden City to take on the Broncbusters at 6 PM.
