First-half deficit too much to overcome in Beavers loss to Broncbusters

GARDEN CITY, Kan.- Falling behind early, the Beavers saw a first-half double-digit deficit prove to be too tall a hill to climb, losing 71-61.

Though she came off of the bench, Tytiana Haamid played a majority of the game while posting her second double-double of the season, going for 16 points and 12 rebounds. She led Pratt in both statistical categories. Rachel Tippens finished the evening with 13 points, most of which came from the free throw line (7-9). Tippens has now scored at least 12 points in two of her last three games, as she was also tied with Jada Moss for a team-high with five offensive rebounds.

On the subject of rebounding, Pratt dominated the boards, outrebounding Garden City 46-35, and 22-11 on the offensive end of the floor. However, the Beavers only managed to shoot 31 percent from the floor (23-75), and 16 percent from behind the three-point line (3-19). Pratt also committed an uncharacteristic number of turnovers, surrendering possession 20 times in comparison to Garden City's 17.

The Broncbusters were 11-27 from three-point range, and that work started early, with the Broncbusters shooting 50 percent (4-8) from deep in the first quarter, contributing to Garden City's 23-10 lead after the first 10 minutes. In the second quarter, the Broncbusters sustained that success from range, knocking down six of 10 three-point attempts, while shooting 10-19 overall in the second quarter. The second quarter saw Garden City score 18 of its 26 points via the three-pointer. As such, the Beavers trailed 49-29 entering halftime.

Trailing by double-digits for the entirety of the third quarter, the Beavers did manage to cut away at the lead. With just over eight minutes left in the final quarter, Pratt reduced the Garden City lead to only seven points, down 57-50. Even so, the Beavers connected on only 33 percent of its attempts over the course of the last 10 minutes (5-15), while the Broncbusters were 10-12 from the free throw line down the stretch.

Women's basketball is now 14-13 overall and 8-10 in the KJCCC. Coach Ishee and his team return on Saturday for a 2 PM tip-off against Northwest Kansas Technical College on Saturday at the Beaver Dome.
