Beavers bash Dodge City on Sophomore Night

PRATT, Kan.- Not only were the Beavers in need of a win for playoff positioning, but for sentimental purposes as well.

Coach Ishee watched as his seven sophomores played perhaps their final home game at the Beaver Dome on Sophomore Night, and they certainly gave him plenty to be proud of, beating Dodge City 54-24.

One of those sophomores, Tytiana Haamid, had a game-high 13 points on 5-12 (42 percent) shooting from the field. Affectionately known as "Big T", Haamid made her presence known down on the low block for most of the evening. She also had five rebounds and a pair of assists. Two more sophomores, Rylee Alexander and Janell Douvier, finished with 12 points each. Alexander only shot the basketball five times, but she was 2-3 from long range and was 4-6 from the free throw line. She also managed seven rebounds and three steals. Douvier also knocked down a pair of threes and recorded a game-high nine rebounds.

The Beavers defense more than stifled the Conquistadors, forcing Dodge City to connect on only 19.6 percent of its field goal tries (10-51), inlcuding 1-21 from behind the three-point line (4.8 percent). Pratt also did well to get near the rim and force Dodge City to foul, considering the Beavers were 13-17 from the free throw line in comparison to Dodge City only managing eight attempts from the stripe. Dodge City failed to score more than seven points in any quarter.

Next for the Beavers (16-13, 10-10) is a trip to Colby to wrap up the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 PM.
