WBB falls to Butler 67-47

PRATT, Kan.- An evening highlighted by the return of fans at the Beaver Dome was dampered by the end result. The Beavers, unable to turn around early offensive struggles, were beaten by the 25th-ranked Butler Grizzlies 67-47.

Jordan Mathis was the only Beaver to break double-figures in points, scoring 10 on 3-6 shooting. She also managed four rebounds to go with a steal and an assist. Christy Wiebe posted nine points on 3-17 shooting, where 15 of her attempts were from long-range. Chariah Daniels had a game-high 10 rebounds, and was credited with a couple of assists as well as a steal.

The Beavers inability to get the basketball through the rim ended up being their downfall, as Pratt was 18-65 (27.7%) from the field, including 6-34 (17.6%) from three-point range. Coach Kenner's team was also on the wrong side of the turnover battle, surrending 21 giveaways to Butler's 15.

Trailing only 14-12 after the first quarter, the Beavers subsequently connected on only three of their next 15 attempts in the second quarter compared to Butler's six makes on 13 attempts. The two-point deficit became a 12-point hole at the halftime break, 31-19. Shooting only 16% in the third quarter, the Beavers were unable to trim away at Butler's growing lead, and were forced to chase the game through the fourth quarter.

The Beavers return on Wednesday, when they travel to Concordia for a date with Cloud County. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
