Beavers lose heartbreaker in Concordia

CONCORDIA, Kan.- Seconds away from snapping a three-game losing streak, the Beavers saw the Thunderbirds put together a late charge, as Pratt fell 64-63 in overtime on Wednesday. 

Christy Wiebe led the Beavers in scoring with 18 points, where she was 6-16 from the field (38%), including 4-12 from three-point range. Wiebe also had five rebounds and an assist. Chariah Daniels managed 13 points off of the bench, as she played a whopping 29 minutes. Daniels was a rebound away from a double-double, as she also was credited with six steals. Cassie Onwugbfor scored 12 points with a team-high six assists. 

As a whole, it was another tough night from the field for the Beavers. The team was 22-73 from the field, and 8-32 from long range. At the free throw line, Pratt missed out on crucial points, going 11-21 from the stripe. 

A competitive game throughout, the Beavers erased a 28-27 halftime deficit to gain a 47-41 lead entering the fourth quarter. That lead stretched to as much as 56-47 with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, though the Thunderbirds found a late formula for success. Over the final three minutes, Pratt was 0-4 from the field, a span that included two turnovers. Cloud County's Branda Boakye sunk a layup with two seconds remaining to force overtime. 

In the extra period, the Thunderbirds inched out to a 64-63 lead with 39 seconds remaining, as the Beavers subsequently turned the basketball over. Two missed free throws from Cloud County left the door open for Pratt, but a late three-pointer from Natalya Taylor was blocked as time expired. 

The Beavers are now 1-4 and 0-4 in KJCCC play, but will have a quick chance to right the ship on Saturday, as Independence comes to town. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
