Beavers Win First Conference Game

Pratt, Kan. – The Pratt Community College Beavers traveled to Goodland, KS earlier today, November 19 to take on the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Technical College. Both the Mavericks and the Beavers were coming off losses in their conference openers on November 16.

After a back-and-forth start, the Mavericks were able to pull ahead for a six-point lead 20-14 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Pratt was able to tie the game at 26 a piece with 5:37 remaining in the quarter. The team took a two-point lead 36-34 into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Beavers managed to build a ten-point lead 54-44 to end the quarter. The Mavericks had one more run in them as they pulled within three points as the final seconds of the game were ticking by. Pratt held on to win 71-66.

Freshman Princess Anderson lead the team with 19 points. Isis Sanders had 16 points while Emily Acton (14 points) and Macy Hanzlick (12 points) rounding out the four Beavers with double digit points. The Mavericks did manage to outrebound the Beavers 31 to 23 while both teams had over 20 turnovers.

Pratt will host the #4 Hutchison Blue Dragons on Tuesday, November 22 in a pre-Thanksgiving battle. In the game a year ago, the Beavers managed to pull within two points in the final minute of the game.
