Beaver Women's Basketball Battle Cowley College

Pratt, Kan. - The Beaver women's basketball team hosted the Cowley College Tigers earlier today, January 14. The Beavers entered the game after a disappointing loss at Dodge City. While the Tigers defeated Cloud County at home on Wednesday, January 11.  

The contest started in a chaotic fashion with Cowley pressing from the jump in addition to five straight offensive rebounds in the first two minutes. The Beavers were able to adjust quickly and tied the game 13-13 with 5:07 in the first quarter. The Beavers took their first lead of the game about a minute later 16-15. At the end of the first quarter Pratt held a 26-23 lead. Cowley regained the lead at the 9:12 mark of the second quarter 29-28. By the media timeout of the second quarter Cowley had built a ten-point lead 45-35. After the timeout, the Beavers jumped on a run of their own and got within three points 47-44 with 2:13 left in the quarter. At half Cowley had a four point lead 54-51. 

In the third quarter Cowley would go on to hit seven three-point baskets and started the quarter on an 18-4 run. The Tigers went on to outscore Pratt 32-18 in the third quarter and lead 86-69 heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Beavers responded with 15 points of their own as Cowley held on to win 97-84. 

The Beavers scored 43 of their 84 points from the bench. Leading scorer Princess Anderson for the second straight game scored 35 points for a total of 70 points this week. Macy Hanzlick had a double-double in the game with 11 rebounds and 15 points. Finally, Isis Sanders rounded out the Beavers scoring leaders with 20 points and eight rebounds. In Lauren Galliher's first start in a Beaver uniform she had four points and five rebounds. The biggest statistical area the Beavers will look to improve upon is turnovers. Pratt had 34 turnovers which lead to 37 Tiger points.  

The conference schedule will now reset as the Beavers head to Liberal, KS on Wednesday, January 18th to take on Seward County Community College. Tip is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
