Beavers Open 2024 With Three Straight Conference Games

The Beaver women's basketball team has been back in action this past week with three conference matchups. They faced Cloud County on Saturday, January 6 in the Beaver Dome and lost a close game 72-64. The team then traveled to Cowley on Wednesday, January 10 and played another close game, but unfortunately lost 74-62. Finally, the Beavers hosted Butler on Saturday, January 13 and lost to the No. 8 ranked Grizzlies 93-72. Up next for the 7-8 Beavers is a trip to Goodland, Kan. on Wednesday, February 17 to face the Northwest Tech Mavericks.  

Cloud County (January 6) Recap 

Cloud County Community College defeated Pratt with a final score of 72-64. The game started off with a close first quarter, with Cloud County taking a one-point lead at 17-16. Both teams continued to battle in the second quarter, with Pratt managing to tie the game at 35-35 going into halftime. 

In the third quarter, Cloud County took control and outscored Pratt 20-17, giving them a three-point lead heading into the final quarter. The T-Birds maintained their momentum in the fourth quarter, outscoring Pratt 16-12 to secure the win. 

Princess Anderson led the team with 32 points, while Janessa Pauda added 10 points. For Cloud County, Maimouna Sissoko scored 28 points and grabbed 22 rebounds.  

Overall, Pratt shot 37.1% from the field, 28.1% from three-point range, and 42.9% from the free-throw line. Cloud County shot 40.6% from the field, 8.3% from beyond the arc, and 83.3% from the free-throw line.  

Cowley (January 10) Recap 

Cowley County Community College defeated Pratt Community College with a final score of 74-62. In the first quarter, Pratt Community College scored 19 points while Cowley scored 20 points. The Beavers scored 14 points while Cowley added 19 points in the second quarter for a 39-22 lead at halftime.  

In the third quarter, Pratt outscored the Tigers 17-8 to take a 50-47 lead in the final quarter.  The Tigers made a comeback and scored 27 points in the fourth quarter, while only holding Pratt to 12 points. The game ended with a final score of 74-62 in favor of Cowley. 

For Pratt, Emily Acton was the top scorer with 20 points. Celesta Teijema contributed 13 points to the team's total. On the other hand, Cowley had Anna Przyszlak as their leading scorer with 21 points. 

In terms of shooting percentages, the Beavers had a field goal percentage of 39.7%, a three-point percentage of 28.9%, and a free throw percentage of 71.4%. Cowley had a field goal percentage of 41.5%, a three-point percentage of 30.8%, and a free throw percentage of 92.3%. 

Butler (January 13) Recap 

Butler Community College defeated Pratt Community College in a game on January 13, 2024, with a final score of 93-72. The first quarter saw Butler take an early lead, outscoring the Beavers 18-12. However, Pratt fought back in the second quarter, matching Butler's 21 points to keep the game close. At halftime, the Grizzlies held a slim 39-34 lead. 

Butler came out strong in the third quarter, scoring 25 points and extending their lead to 64-53. They continued their run in the fourth quarter, outscoring Pratt 29-19 to secure the victory. 

Princess Anderson was the leading scorer for Pratt, putting up 33 points. Isis Sanders also had a solid performance with 12 points. Freddie Wallace was the top performer for Butler, scoring 21 points and grabbing 9 rebounds.
