Beeson takes first, seven Beavers place at NEO Open

MIAMI, Okla.- The #8 Beavers resoundly proved they were among the best teams in the country in their first two duals of 2021, and on Saturday, Coach Kepley's group provided further evidence for such a notion.

Along with Jake Beeson, who took first place in the 149 lbs. weight division, seven other Beavers finished in the top three at the Northeastern Oklahoma's Golden Norsemen Invite.

Beeson's first match against Tyson Smith of the host school resulted in a 16-0 technical fall win in the first period, while his second match against Labette's Jaime Mitchell was an identical first period 16-0 technical fall. In the final match versus NEO's Blake Gonzalez, the two men went scoreless in the first period before Beeson put his foot on the gas. Choosing to work from the bottom to start the second period, Beeson was credited with an escape and a takedown soon after to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Gonzalez wuickly earned a one-point escape, but Beeson scored another two points with a takedown. Leading 5-1 with seconds to spare in the period, Beeson locked up the pin and the tournament win.

Cayden Atkins (174 lbs.), Deston Miller (184 lbs.), Bryce Westmoreland (197 lbs.), and Devon Dawson (HWT) all wrestled in the final round to finish second place in their respective weight classes. At 133 lbs., Jason Henschel fought his way to a third place finish, as did Dayton Porsch (157 lbs.) and Taidon Wills (165 lbs.).

The Beavers return on Tuesday to face off with conference foe Barton at the Beaver Dome, starting at 7 PM. The dual will be livestreamed on GoBeaverSports.com.
