Beaver Wrestling Defeats #11 Labette and Colby

The No. two ranked Pratt Community College wrestling team traveled to Parsons, Kan. on January 24 to dual Colby Community College and No. 11 ranked Labette Community College. The Beavers defeated both teams to advance to 4-0 in the conference dual season with three teams remaining to wrestle. They defeated the Trojans of Colby 56-0 and the No 11 ranked Labette 40-12.  

Recap vs. Colby

At the 125-pound weight class, Kaden Spragis won by forfeit and scored an easy six points for his team. At 133 pounds, Kolton Field faced off against Tyler Fields of Colby. Field dominated the match, winning by a technical fall with a score of 16-0. In the 141-pound weight class, Easton Taylor continued the team's winning streak by defeating Xzavier Martinez with another technical fall, scoring 16-0. 

Gabe Maki continued the team's dominance at 149 pounds, pinning Jenson Hoeme in just 1 minute and 20 seconds. The winning streak continued at 157 pounds, with Nick Carlson pinning Alec Schmuck of Colby in 4 minutes and 14 seconds. Cayleb Atkins continued the trend at 165 pounds, pinning Kyan Ensign of Colby in just 38 seconds. 

Drew Withington kept the momentum going at 174 pounds, pinning Dante Brown of Colby in 1 minute and 21 seconds. At 184 pounds, Blake Jouret of Pratt won by forfeit. Kaden Glass secured another win for the team at 197 pounds, pinning Ethan Anderson of Colby. 

In the heavyweight division, Cayden Winter won by a major decision with a score of 16-5 against Nicholas Martinez. In an extra match at 149 pounds, Alejandro Ramirez of Pratt pinned Jenson Hoeme in 4 minutes and 35 seconds. In another extra match at heavyweight, Abdias Hernandez of Colby defeated Carter Atteberry by a close decision of 4-3. 

Overall, Pratt Community College dominated the dual, winning every match and securing a final team score of 56-0. 

Recap vs. Labette Co.

The match started at the 125-pound weight class, where Kaden Spragis defeated Caleb Collins of Labette by fall in 1 minute and 51 seconds, earning 6 points for his team. At the 133-pound weight class, Kolton Field won a decision over Corban Zugelder with a score of 9-3, adding another 3 points to Pratt's total.  

In the 141-pound weight class, Easton Taylor secured an 8-3 decision victory over Jazen Brown earning 3 more points for Pratt. At 149 pounds, Gabe Maki of Pratt pinned Jamarius Koshko in 4 minutes and 56 seconds, contributing 6 points to Pratt's score.  

Labette got on the board at the 157-pound weight class, as Davion King defeated Nick Carlson of Pratt by fall in 4 minutes and 28 seconds, earning 6 points for his team. Pratt quickly regained momentum at the 165-pound weight class, with Cayleb Atkins pinning Matthew Smith in 3 minutes and 30 seconds, adding 6 points to Pratt's total.  

Drew Withington won a major decision over Garrett Davis of Labette at the 174-pound weight class, with a score of 19-11, earning 4 points for Pratt. Labette forfeited the 184 and 197-pound weight classes, giving Pratt 12 points. In the heavyweight division, Gabe Kant of Labette pinned Cayden Winter, earning 6 points for Labette.  

There were also some extra matches that did not contribute to the team score. Eric Streeter of Labette defeated Alejandro Ramirez by fall in 1 minute and 18 seconds. Chad Herbert of Labette won by technical fall over Brennon Gann with a score of 19-4. Rodney Trotter pinned Carter Atteberry in 49 seconds. Luke Young defeated Adrian Elsen by fall in 1 minute and 51 seconds.

Next up for the No. two ranked Beavers will be a trip to Goodland, Kan. to dual the no. 10 ranked Northwest Tech Mavericks and Cowley College. The matches take place on January 31.
