PCC women’s soccer opens the regular season with a home match-up

The Pratt Community College women's soccer team opened up regular season play with a non-conference home game against Redlands Community College. An afternoon full of rain created an exciting offensive atmosphere on both sides. Redlands gained momentum late and took home the win. PCC fell short (1-3).

PCC was led by forward Quemberli Merida, who took all 4 of Pratt's shots on target. Merida leveled the score for the Beavers early in the contest after receiving a brilliant assist from Avery Villines. During a tie-breaking goal search from both sides Redlands put two in the back of the net in the last 10 minutes of competition. Pratt introduced both of their goal keepers in the match-up. Haven Johannsen started the first 45 minutes of play, while Maria Camacho protected the net the entire second half. Johannsen made a game-high of 6 saves.

"Yesterday was a tough loss as I don't believe the result showed the girls' determination and hard work. There are still some things we need to work on before the next game and, we are still early into the season. Some of the freshman really stepped up and, I am expecting a lot from them this year as we have a big incoming class," said head coach Ashley Burnett.

PCC women's soccer continues competition at home against Colorado Northwestern Junior College Aug. 26. First touch is set for 10 a.m.
