Pratt Beavers Clinch 1st Seed in NJCAA Region VI Tournament

Pratt, Kan. - The Pratt Community College Beavers traveled to Hesston, KS to face the Larks of Hesston College yesterday, October 19 to end their regular season. Within the first two minutes of the game Hesston struck first off a goal by Kira Kumada. The Beavers would go on to tie the game at half 1-1 off a goal by Ashlynn Kurtz with Kaylane Lemos getting the assist. 

In the second half, Pratt added three additional goals. First with Faye Butterworth scoring at the 53:40 mark of the game. Freshman Leticia Tessi was credited with the assist her sixth this season. About a minute later, Kurtz added her second goal of the evening to make the game 3-1 with Natalia Richartz picking up her fourth assist on the year. With about five minutes left to go in the match, Tessi scored her 11 goal of the season off of an Abby Martin assist to secure a 4-1 victory for the Beavers. 

This morning, October 20, the National Junior College Athletic Association annouced the rankings and matchups for the opening round of the Region VI tournament. First the first time in program history, the women secured the #1 seed and will face Southeast Community College from Beatrice, NE on Thursday, October 27. Gametime is set for 5:00 pm at the Pratt Soccer Complex. 

Pratt defeated the Storm from Southeast in both meetings this season. The first meeting, came at home back on September 14 with Pratt winning 2-0. The Beavers then traveled to Beatrice, NE on October 5 and won that matchup 2-0. If the Beavers can defeat Southeast for the third time this season they would advance to take on the winner of Central Community College and Allen County. That game would take place on Sunday, October 30 at the Pratt Soccer Complex. The time is to be announced.  

The Beavers finished the regular season 10-2-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The team is entering the playoffs with an 8-1 streak with their only loss coming against Allen County in overtime back on October 12.
