
The Women's Tennis team had its first action in Salina, KS today, February 6. Despite being down 4 of their top 6 players, they managed a very close match. Ilse Smaalders and Ebonie Russell teamed up to play in the #1 doubles match against Kansas Wesleyan's Alivia Shere and Eliza Camp. PCC took the match 7-5. In the #2 doubles match, the team of Imara Achala and Hailey Petersille defeated Kansas Wesleyan's Lauren Higgins and Bella Myers by a score of 6-1. Despite forfeiting the #3 doubles match, Pratt was able to take the doubles point. With a forfeit at the #6 singles spot, PCC was tied 1-1 immediately following the doubles action.
In singles, Smaalders and Russell sprinted through their matches defeating Hayden Bellamy and McKinnley Evans 6-3, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively. Smaalders, who usually plays #2 and Russell who usually plays #5 both impressed with their strong wins. Kansas Wesleyan was able to win the #3, #4, and #5 singles matches to earn a narrow 4-3 victory.
The team will be in action this Wednesday, February 12 in Wichita, KS as they face off with the Newman Jets!
