PCC volleyball sweeps Bethany JV

The Pratt Community College volleyball team played host to the Bethany College Junior Varsity team for a non-conference matchup. Pratt entered the game on a 2-game winning streak. The Beavers winning theme continued after knocking out Bethany in straight sets 3-0 (25-10; 25-12; 25-18).

PCC started the contest by going on a 8-1 run that forced an early Bethany timeout. The Beavers were able to put away the ball nearly every opportunity they got. Pratt won the first and second set by double-digit figures.

Freshman middle hitter Elise Baranco earned 6 kills on only 11 attack attempts. Outside hitter Stephanie Reichenberger had a game high of 7 kills while only playing in the lesser part of two sets. Reichenberger and Baranco did not earn a single hitting error during the contest.

Head coach Jenny Mueller introduced a variety of unique and efficient lineups as the game went on. Pratt was able to score effectively with each lineup during every set. PCC managed to score no less than 12 kills per set as a collective group.

The Beavers found ways to score points with nearly every touch of the ball. The team had a season high of 11 service aces. Defensive specialist Kylee Ricke racked up a total of 4 aces on the night. Behind her was Setter Morgan Bullinger who also earned 3 points off of serves.

Pratt made a sound effort defensively as well. The back row was commanded by Libero Naomi Warren who had 16 digs in the 3 set contest. Freshman middle hitter Haley Gleason took advantage of her time on the court earning 2 solo blocks for her team in a single set.

Each set the Beavers clinched 25 points by a noticeable margin. Pratt held a lead of 5 points or more during a majority of the game. By defeating Bethany, the Beavers improved to a 3-game winning streak.

PCC volleyball looks to continue their streak next against Independence Community College on Sep. 14. The first serve is scheduled at 6:30 p.m.
