Beavers fall in three sets to Butler during home conference match

The Pratt Community College volleyball team returned to the Dennis Lesh Sports arena for a KJCCC match against Butler Community College. Pratt came in to the contest with a 3-game winning streak. The Beavers' streak came to an end after Butler took the victory 3-0 (25-18; 25-18; 25-18).

PCC began the first set with an early 3-point lead over the Grizzlies. The blue and white were energized by their effective front row blocking. Middle hitter Elise Baranco had a total of 4 blocks during the first set alone.

Pratt's lead continued to grow with every missed serve from Butler. Things began to slow down for the Beavers after they got whistled for being out of rotation. Butler proceeded to go on a late 7-point run that helped them close out the set.

Pratt held a lead in each set but did not manage to capitalize and hit the 25 point mark. PCC led by as many as four points in the second set and even forced a Grizzly timeout. Three missed serves came back to haunt the Beavers and allow Butler to take set two.

Neither team was able to pull away in the early parts of the third set. Several lead changes occurred throughout the first 15 points. After being tied 17-all, Butler started to score their own points and gained the edge to take the third with the same score as the first two sets, 25-18.

PCC volleyball hosts their next conference contest against Independence Community College on Sep. 22. First whistle will blow at 2 p.m.
