Victory escapes Pratt volleyball while against No. 8 Seward County

The Pratt Community College volleyball team went head-to-head with No. 8 Seward County Community College. Pratt fell to 7-13 overall on the season after taking a loss to Seward County on the road. The Saints overcame PCC with a final score 3-0 (25-15; 25-21; 25-16).

Things seemed to go the way of the Beavers to start the game. In the first set Pratt took a 5-2 lead over the Saints. The first several rallies included several back-and-forth attempts from each side. PCC took more attempts than their opponent in every set. Pratt was not able to capitalize as well as their conference foes when it came to scoring points on the swing. Seward County was able to take off with the lead and win the first set by scoring more kills.

The Beavers found themselves in the running with Saints in the second set as well. Pratt forced Seward's first timeout after scoring four consecutive points and nearly tying the score at 21-20. The run was topped off by a service ace from defensive specialist Gabriela Ortiz. PCC ran efficient scoring plays after the timeout to try and take the set but came up short. Seward County took the second set by only four points.

Pratt took more attempts in the third set and made less errors than the previous two sets. A lack of kills plagued the Beavers in set three. Pratt continued to keep close on the scoreboard with Seward County until mid-way through the set. Seward County managed to take the set and the game with a score of 25-16.

PCC volleyball returns to conference play against Independence Community college on Sept. 20. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
