PCC volleyball comes up short in rematch against Hutchinson

The Pratt Community College volleyball team went on the road to face Hutchinson Community College in a Jayhawk West matchup. The Beavers challenged the Blue Dragons for the second encounter this year in an attempt to improve on their previous performance at home against the defending Region VI champions. Pratt fell short of their goal in the end as Hutchinson took the game 3-0 (25-13; 25-19; 25-22).

The Beavers were led offensively by middle blocker Elise Baranco. Baranco took 19 swings in the game and earned seven kills in the process. Baranco never produced a hitting error in the 3-set contest.

Freshman Olivia Hessman put up a similar stat line as she took 12 attack attempts from the setter and opposite hitter positions which allowed for four kills. Hessman also never had an attack go short or out of bounds during the entire duration of the match.

A combination of efficient individual efforts was not enough for the Beavers to overthrow the Blue Dragons. Pratt out swung Hutchinson in the second and third set, but did not manage to kill the ball as much as needed to take any sets.

PCC volleyball will play next when they take on Colby Community College on Oct. 6. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
