Beavers fall in heart-breaking five sets at Independence

The Pratt Community College volleyball team traveled to take on Independence Community College for their final away game of the regular season. The Beavers and Pirates put on a show for fans by going the maximum five sets. Independence was the first to find the 15-point mark as they took down the Beavers 3-2 (18-25; 21-25; 25-20; 25-19; 15-8).

A match that ended in a loss started out in favor of the Beavers. PCC managed to take the first two sets over the Pirates.

Offensively the Beavers were guided by outside hitter Morgan Bullinger who had a team-high of 11 kills. Closely behind her was fellow freshman teammate Rylee Turner, who scored nine kills of her own.

The Beavers tallied up 53 digs on the defensive end. The back row was led by libero Naomi Warren (17 digs). Setter Olivia Hessman also posted 11 digs in an attempt to keep her team alive.

Independence regained control in the last three sets of play. After winning both set three and four, the Pirates capitalized on their home court advantage to take set five and the match.

PCC volleyball will end the regular season with a two-game home stand against conference opponents. The next match will be against Dodge City Community College on Oct. 22. The Beavers can be caught in action beginning at 6:30 p.m.
