Volleyball Ready for Home Conference Opener

The Beaver volleyball team is set to host Colby Community College on September 6 in the Beaver Dome at 6:30 PM. This will be the second conference matchup for the Beavers and the first at home.  

Last Time Out 

The Beavers traveled to Butler on Saturday, September 2 to open conference play. The Grizzles won in straight sets with scores of 25-20, 25-13, and 25-21. In the first set, Pratt struggled to find their rhythm, committing several errors and allowing Butler to take control. Alyssa Hunter was the leading scorer for Pratt with 8 kills, but it wasn't enough to overcome Butler's strong performance. Butler had a hitting percentage of .200 in the first set, with 11 kills and 5 errors. 

The second set saw a similar story, with Butler continuing to dominate. They had a hitting percentage of .333, with 12 kills and 3 errors. Pratt struggled to find their offense, with Dixie Huffaker and Baylee Brin both having negative hitting percentages. Butler's Sarah Sullivan led the team with 10 kills in the set. In the third set, Pratt showed some fight, but ultimately fell short. They had a hitting percentage of .121, with 8 kills and 4 errors. Brianney Reyes had a strong performance for Pratt, contributing 6 kills and 2 blocks. However, Butler's Greta Santini and Anja Milosevic led the team with 6 kills each, helping secure the victory for Butler. 

Scouting the Trojans

Colby is currently sitting at 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference. They lost 3-2 on August 30 at Seward County and then picked up their first conference win this past weekend, September 2 3-0 against Cloud County. Freshman Celia Mbaya leads the team with 145 kills averaging 4.14 kills per set. In addition, sophomore Anna Gazzerro leads the team with 404 assists which averages to 11.54 assists per set and 24 serve aces.  

After Wednesdays match, the Beavers will travel to Oklahoma on Thursday to play Rose State and then on to Seminole, OK on Friday to Face Seminole State and Dallas College Eastfield.
