Beaver Baseball Set for NJCAA Region VI Opening Round

The Beaver baseball team has advanced to the opening round of the 2023 NJCAA Region VI Baseball Tournament for the second straight year. They finished the regular season with an overall record of 24-31 with a 12-20 conference record. They finished seventh in the KJCCC West standings.

Highlights of the season include sweeping the four-game series against Garden City. Winning the series against Colby and splitting the series against Seward County. They head into the playoffs after picking up a win in game four against Butler Community College 14-11.

"We have done a good job this year of continuing to grow," said Head Baseball Coach Todd Reller. "We had a couple of tough series to finish the year and hopefully that last game against Butler is the team that is going to show up this week in the playoffs."

Pratt will face the #2 seed Cowley Tigers from the east side of the conference. Cowley finished their regular season with a 33-19 overall record and a 23-9 conference record. The Tigers faced both Butler and Hutchinson from the west side of the conference this season. The team split their two-game series against Butler and won the four-game series against the Blue Dragons. As a team the Tigers are hitting .289 with an on base percentage of .418 with 38 homeruns. On the mound the Tigers' pitching staff is averaging a 5.46 earned run average with 9.07 strikeouts over nine innings.

"They are the perennial contender in our conference as the regional championship usually runs through them," said Coach Reller. "They have had a lot of success in the past and they are very talented. I do not think this year will be any different. By no means are these games going to be easy. We are going to have to play well and handle our business."

The series will be a best of three with one nine inning game being played each day. The series is set to begin on Wednesday, March 10 at 2:00 pm.
