Beavers End Season in Opening Round of NJCAA Region VI Playoffs

The Beaver baseball team competed in the opening round of the NJCAA Region VI Baseball Tournament this past week May 10-12. Pratt traveled to Arkansas City, KS to take on the Cowley Tigers in a best of three series. With the winner advancing to the second round taking place at Eck Stadium. Unfortunately, the Beavers lost the series 2-1 and ended their season for a second straight season in the opening round of the playoffs. Pratt ended their season 25-33 overall and 12-20 in conference play. 

Game One Recap 

Both teams were held scoreless through the first four and a half innings until Cowley managed to score three runs off three walks in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Tigers added three more runs to their lead off a three-run homerun. Pratt scored in the top of the ninth inning off a two-run homerun by Garryn Plummer but lost game one by a score of 6-2.  

Game Two Recap  

To start game two, Cowley scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Pratt was able to cut the lead by two runs in the top of the second inning off three hits. Both teams scored one run in the third inning for a 5-3 Cowley lead. Six runs came in for Pratt in the top of the fourth inning off three hits, five walks and two wild pitches. Cowley scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Pratt lead to 9-7. Both teams scored again in the seventh inning to make it a 10-8 Beaver lead. The Tigers brought one run home in the ninth inning while stranding one runner on base as Pratt won 10-9.  

Game Three Recap 

Cowley got out to an early 3-1 lead after the first inning in game three. In the third inning, the Tigers extended their lead 5-2. Both teams scored two runs in the fifth inning as Cowley lead 7-4. In the top of the seventh inning, Pratt brought home two runs and cut the Cowley lead to one run. Pratt took their first lead of the game in the top of the eighth inning 8-7 but allowed the Tigers to tie the game up eight all in the next half inning. Both teams were held scoreless in the ninth inning. With one out in the bottom of the 10th inning, Cowley hit a walk off homerun to win game three 10-9 and the series 2-1.
