Beavers Head to NOC-Tonkawa for Four Game Series

The Pratt Community College baseball team travels to Tonkawa, Okla. on Thursday, Feb. 15 for the first of two games against the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Mavericks. Weather permitting, the Beavers will play the second two games on Saturday, Feb. 17 in Tonkawa as well. The games could be moved a day earlier, or a day later due to temperatures and weather conditions.  

Last Time Out 

The Beavers traveled to Fort Scott, Kan. on February 9 and 10 for a four-game series against the Greyhounds of Fort Scott Community College. The Beavers lost the series 3-1 while picking up their only win of the series in game two 20-10. Game four of the series came down to extra innings with the 11-10 advantage going the way of the Greyhounds. 

Clean Baseball Moving Forward 

In eight games, the Beavers made 16 errors, an average of two errors per game. In those same eight games the Beaver opponents have ten errors. The Beavers must clean up the errors in order to get on the winning side of things moving forward.  

Sophomores Lead Batting Stats  

Both Gavin Djurovic and Jaden Flores lead the team with nine hits a piece while Drew Bugner and Tytin Goebel have eight hits. Bugner leads the team with 10 RBIs and four homeruns. As a team the Beavers are hitting .267 with a .419 on base percentage and 13 homeruns.  

Pitching By Committee 

One of the areas the Beavers do have depth in is on the mound. So far this season, the pitching unit is averaging 7.94 strikeouts per nine innings, with 45 strikeouts. Projected starting pitchers for the four-game series include Jace Doelitsch, Dalton Mantz, Carson Padgett, and Josh Doelitsch.  

Scouting the Mavericks 

The Mavericks are currently sitting at 8-1 overall with series wins against Iowa Lakes, Hesston, and a win against Southwestern College. Their only loss thus far this season was against Dallas College Brookhaven. As a team they are hitting .428 with a .552 on-base percentage and 11 homeruns. On the mound, the team averages 8.44 strikeouts per nine innings, with 60 strikeouts. 

Up Next 

The Beavers will host Dallas Fort Worth Prep School on the weekend of February 23-24 for a three-game series. Games will be played at the green sports complex as the turf project wraps up at Stanion Field.
