Beaver Wrestling Capture Fourth Straight KJCCC Championship

The No. two ranked Pratt Community College wrestling program complete their final week of the regular season with three dual wins over No. Ten ranked Northwest Tech, Cowley College, and Neosho County. With the additional three wins the Beavers secured an historic 7-0 season record and the team's fourth straight Kansas Community College Jayhawk Conference championship.  

#10 Northwest Tech Recap 

Pratt faced off against Northwest Kansas Technical College on Wednesday, Jan. 31st. The night started off with the 125-pound weight class, where Kaden Spragis won by forfeit, giving his team an early lead of 6-0. Moving on to the 133-pound weight class, John Kenney from Northwest Tech defeated Kolton Field with a score of 11-6. This victory earned the Mavericks three points, closing the gap to 6-3. 

In the 141-pound weight class, Easton Taylor dominated Hunter Elmer, pinning him in just 1 minute and 53 seconds. This win extended Pratt's lead to 12-3. The 149-pound weight class saw a close match between Gabe Maki from Pratt and Dayton Bell for the Mavericks. Maki secured a narrow victory with a score of 11-9, earning three points for his team.  

In the 157-pound weight class, Job Lee from Northwest Tech defeated Nick Carlson with a score of 6-2. The 165-pound weight class witnessed a quick victory for Cayleb Atkins, who pinned Micah Castro in just 40 seconds. This win extended Pratt Community College's lead to 21-6. In the 174-pound weight class, Otgonbayar Batsuuri from Northwest Tech managed to pin Drew Withington in 1 minute and 37 seconds. This victory earned the Mavericks six points, closing the gap to 21-12. 

Moving on to the 184-pound weight class, Lazaro Crespo from Northwest Tech defeated Blake Jouret with a score of 6-4. This win brought Northwest Tech's score to 15, while the Beavers remained at 21. In the 197-pound weight class, Kaden Glass secured a victory over Gavin Dodge with a score of 3-0, extending their lead to 24-15. In the heavyweight division, Faustino Chaydez from Northwest Tech defeated Cayden Winter from Pratt with a score of 7-2.  

Cowley Recap 

The Beavers dominated their wrestling match against Cowley, winning with a final score of 47-7. In the 125-pound weight class, Kaden Spragis defeated Beau Murphy of Cowley by fall in just 2 minutes and 20 seconds. Next, in the 133-pound weight class, Kolton Field won by forfeit, earning another six points for his team. 

In the 141-pound weight class, Easton Taylor of Pratt defeated Ryker Agee by fall in just 1 minute and 14 seconds. Gabe Maki dominated the 149-pound weight class, defeating Chase Koehler of Cowley by technical fall with a score of 19-3. In the 157-pound weight class, Jacen Jackson of Cowley secured a victory over Nick Carlson by decision of 9-3.  

Cayleb Atkins for the Beavers continued the winning streak in the 165-pound weight class, defeating Chance Davis by fall in just 1 minute and 11 seconds. Drew Withington of continued the trend in the 174-pound weight class, defeating Daniel Stephens of Cowley by fall in 1 minute and 26 seconds.  

In the 184-pound weight class, Blake Jouret won by forfeit, earning six points for his team. Kaden Glass secured a victory in the 197-pound weight class, defeating Kamond Manning of Cowley by fall in just 58 seconds. In the heavyweight division, Stefaan Fearon of was able to secure a victory over Carter Atteberry of Pratt Community College by major decision with a score of 11-1.  

Neosho Co. Preview

Pratt finished their dual season by dominating Neosho County, winning with a final score of 57-0. The action started at the 125-pound weight class, where Kaden Spragis won by forfeit, earning six points for his team.  

In the 133-pound weight class, Kolton Field faced off against Teyton Burns of Neosho County. Field dominated the match, winning by technical fall with a score of 22-5 in just 5 minutes. At 141 pounds, Easton Taylor took on Jonathan Perryman of Neosho. Taylor wasted no time and quickly pinned Perryman in just 2 minutes and 10 seconds. The 149-pound weight class saw Gabe Maki of Pratt facing Jace Tapia. Maki pinned Tapia in 2 minutes and 12 seconds. 

Nick Carlson of Pratt competed against Hunter Jennings of Neosho County in the 157-pound weight class. Carlson dominated the match, winning by technical fall with a score of 18-0. The 165-pound weight class featured Cayleb Atkins against Dylan Waggerman with Atkins wasting no time and quickly pinned Waggerman in just 1 minute and 45 seconds. 

In the 174-pound weight class, Drew Withington pinned Terek White in just 1 minute and 19 seconds. Blake Jouret competed against Joseph Tapia in the 184-pound weight class. Jouret dominated the match, winning by technical fall with a score of 16-0 in just 1 minute and 39 seconds. At 197 pounds, Kaden Glass of Pratt by forfeit, earning six points for his team.  

The final match of the night was in the heavyweight division, with Cayden Winter of Pratt taking on Aidan Strube of Neosho County. Winter wasted no time and quickly pinned Strube in just 46 seconds,

The Beavers will travel to Great Bend, Kan. on February 10 for the NJCAA South Central District Wrestling Tournament taking place at Barton Community College.
